The Bolshoi closed its doors for a long time for important renovation work, and, just before it reopened, invited three world-renowned photographers to come and portray backstage at this mecca. Georges Uféras was one of them.
Training session
Some of the best encounters I’ve had in my career as a photographer were during my long spells at the Paris Opera (one year) and the Bolshoi (several months).
Jean-Denis’s choice
Gérard Uféras has worked for a long time on the subject and even published a book on the Paris Opera « Un pas vers les étoiles » (“A step towards the stars”). All his dance images are available at the gallery. If you like this world, Gérard Uféras’ photographs are essential. He puts into them as much rigour and perseverance as the people he is observing.
