BiographY
Thomas Hoeffgen was born in Kiel, Germany, the capital of handball.
He found his path during his national service on a boat whose passengers were young offenders. He produced a series of photographic portraits of these delinquents, making full use of the backdrop – the boat cruised along the coast of the Canary Islands – and capturing moments in their lives.
It was the beginning of his pictural relationship to movement, hinting at his permanent ability to capture fleeting moments. It was then that he started to develop his minimalist, yet cinematographic style.
Nowadays he lives in Brooklyn (New York) and works for international magazines as well as advertising, while continuing his personal work.
